About Me
I have worked in the field of care and mental health for many years helping both adults and children. I have worked within residential homes, social services, the NHS and voluntary organisations. I started out, having completed my psychology degree working within residential children's homes; firstly as a therapeutic support worker, and then within the psychology team. I found this work immensely enjoyable and rewarding. This led me to provide a foster placement within my own family and to spending some time working within social services before going on to complete further training in CBT based psychological therapies, Transactional Analysis psychotherapy and EMDR therapy.
For the last ten years I have worked in the NHS in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) working with children and adolescents with moderate to severe mental health difficulties. My work involves working closely with family members, schools, social workers and other professionals as well as providing individual therapy. Prior to this I worked for Stockport MIND as part of the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies initiative. This role entailed providing individual therapy for adults with mild to moderate mental health difficulties based on a Cognitive Behavioural Model.
I have extensive experience of supporting individuals to manage a range of issues including depression, anxiety disorders (including social anxiety, OCD, generalised anxiety, panic and specific phobias), trauma, self harm, attachment difficulties, PTSD, eating disorders, relationship difficulties, low self esteem. I have also worked with parents of children with Autistic Spectrum Condition and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
