Children and Families
I understand that making a decision to bring your child to therapy or to seek help as parents for your child is a difficult decision. We live in a culture where I believe that there is a culture of feeling that we have to 'just get on with it' as parents or caregivers despite the fact that bringing up children is one of the most complex and challenging things we will do in life.
At our first meeting we could think together about what would be beneficial to you and your family. I can offer a space for adults to think about their family and any difficulties that may be arising or to meet with you together with your child. Alternatively you may feel that some individual space for your child would be beneficial. We can discuss and agree what would work best for you and your child.
In addition to my work with children in their biological families, I have also worked for many years with children who are Looked After by the local authority and have personal experience of being a foster carer. Children who are not looked after within their biological families can sometimes present with additional difficulties due to their early experiences. I have a particular interest in attachment difficulties and the struggles that these young people face. I am able to work with Looked After Children together with the significant people in their lives or to consult with staff teams within residential care homes.
I find the use of play and art invaluable in my work with children. I provide a comfortable room with toys and art materials available to help children to express their feelings. Some of the reasons I have worked with children and families include attachment difficulties, separation anxiety, behavioural difficulties, school refusal, autism, ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), eating disorders, low mood, anxiety, specific phobias, trauma, loss and general family relationship difficulties.
